zsh appends an extra tilde when no path found on tab

When I am trying to complete variable in ZSH with tab, and no such path exists, ZSH adds an extra tilde. I have oh-my-zsh installed. Have I misconfigured something, or is it a 'feature'?
E.g., I type:
dir ~/repos/fakepathTAB
as a result I am getting:
dir ~~/repos/fakepath
^^
zsh oh-my-zsh
