Is python step debugging still available on Netbeans

I'm a long time user of Netbeans for PHP, and previously my python scripts were simple enough that I got by with gedit and ipython. Now I'm trying to do my python in Netbeans too.

Earlier this year I was able to debug - as in step though the code line-by-line and examine variables etc. Now I'm returning to it and the Debug button is greyed out? What do I need to check to get it working again?

Version numbers if relevant:

  • Netbeans 8.2

  • Python 2.7.14

  • Xubuntu 17.10
