Bulk attribute Update in LDAP efficiently in Java
Briefly imagine that we have a list of 300k or 400k or more String elements obtained with an ItemReader from the database. Each element represents an entity's identifier.
Afterwards using CompositeItemWriter + spring-batch-chunk pattern I am trying to:
- update each item in the database (update where id in (, , ,). etc)
- modify an attribute in LDAP for each element.
My question is how could we efficiently modify attributes in LDAP without calling the ldaptemplate's modifyAttribute FOR EACH item? This strategy has a major performance impact.
As far as I have seen spring-ldap doesn't support bulk modify via LDIF. You can parse LDIF files but not bulk import them into LDAP.

The first question to ask is: Does LDAP has the bulk operations concept at the protocol level? Apparently yes: ldapwiki.com/wiki/LDAP%20Bulk%20Attribute%20Update%20Tool. Now if theldapTemplate
from Spring does not provide an API for bulk operations, you can go with another Java API that allows you to do it and use that API in your Spring Batch item writer.
