CSV Upload issue : secure-file-priv in MySQL Workbench (version 8.0)

I have searched this site and found the following answers, but neither are working for me:

  1. Used SHOW VARIABLES LIKE "secure_file_priv"; to see the directory that has been configured and then moved the csv file to the directory specified by secure-file-priv. Here's the code:

LOAD DATA INFILE 'C:ProgramDataMySQLMySQL Server 8.0Uploadsauthor.csv' INTO TABLE author;

Made no difference, still got the secure-file-priv error.

  1. Added SET SESSION sql_mode = ''; before LOAD DATA INFILE

Made no difference, same error.

I then tried to use IMPORT RECORDS FROM AN EXTERNAL FILE

and received a different error:

- Row import failed with error: ("Incorrect decimal value:......)

Another suggestion (which I have not tried as I am using workbench and don't know where to find the start up parameters):

Disable secure-file-priv. This must be removed from startup and cannot be modified dynamically. To do this check your MySQL start up parameters (depending on platform) and my.ini.

So where to now? What am I missing? I am very new to MySQL Workbench so I would really appreciate feedback on what I need to do next..... I have 5 csv files I need to upload and there's quite a bit of data, so manual input is out of the question.

  • I found the configuration settings and disabled secure-file-priv. This didn't solve my problem....... Can someone please advise what I need to do? I use MySQL workbench to create the EER diagram and then forward engineer to MySQL version 8.0. I now need to upload the 5 csv files but am unable to.
