prevent vscode from closing empty html tags on format

When I Shift+Alt+F (auto format) or save with "editor.formatOnSave": true, my empty html tags become self closing.
Can I override this behavior?
Before Save
<div>
<span></span>
<div></div>
<style></style>
</div>
After Save
<div>
<span/>
<div/>
<style/>
</div>
